Day 4

Tuesday 16/10

We woke up around 9am to go to Shibuya “a stimulating town that continues to update the trends of the young generation at a fast rate.” My Thanh had to interview Mr. Kenichi Yamada, a senior researcher at NHK, Japan’s public service broadcaster. Us guys, (Cliff, Josh, and I), decided to go with her to provide her support as she pursues her entertainment journalism career. To be quite frank, I thought what we did at NHK was pretty neat. Mr. Yamada took us into the NHK entertainment museum and educated us about the history of the company. While My Thanh was paying attention to him, we decided to venture around. Below you can see what we did.

After NHK, we walked around Shibuya. That place was very busy and there were a lot of students in school uniform. I didn’t know schools took field-trips to the shopping area during the afternoon. According to our guide, it said to go into Shibuya 109, which is a fashion building that’s very popular among teenagers. All the shops in there were for girls and the style of clothing is very funky. I would never see myself wearing anything like that.

We left for Harajuku, specifically Takeshita Dori, which had “stores containing miscellaneous character and idol goods popular among teens.” It was so crowded there. Most of the shops there did not interest me; I didn’t see anything that caught my interest. Most of the time here, we just walked around appreciating the shopping area of Tokyo. We stopped by this temple but it wasn't open so we just took a picture and left. It started to rain so we had to leave early, but before that, we went into a BMW car dealership. I sat in the newest M3 model and pretended to drive in it while My Thanh and Josh walked backwards pass my window to add to the authenticity of my driving experience. I thanked them deeply for it afterwards. We went back to Shinjuku and slept!
