Tokyo, Japan Day 1

Courtesy of Joshua Ma's daily logging and my blogging, we bring you JAPAN TRIP 2007!!!

Blogging all 7 days at once is a formidable task so I will blog day by day. This is like a TV series, but in a blog....so stay tune. I promise, the stories and pictures get better and better.

Quick/detailed readers:

Sat. night Oct 13, 2007
7:00pm – arrived in Narita Airport
7:15pm – Obtained JR Railpass for 7 days, cost $250USD!!!!! So expensive!
7:45pm – Left Narita Airport via the Narita Express (the JR agent reserved seats on the car for us, heading to Shinjuku) The ride was 1.5 hrs.
9:15pm – arrived into Shinjuku. Exited southeast part of the station, and walked around, then towards our hotel.
10:00pm – We checked into the hotel. Our first words, when we saw our room, "oh crap, we're dead." It was an extremely small room with one bed and minimal floor space for 4 people. We had to be super organized!
10:15pm – started walking around Shinjuku, its all bars, restaurants, strip clubs and arcades. We ate at a ramen place and it was 980 yen, so about 10 USD, pretty expensive already.
1:15pm - We went to an arcade and hung around there for a bit before returning to Shinjuku Prince Hotel

More details:

Shinjuku was the image of Tokyo that I had in mind - Shinjuku has a lot of lights and sounds, everything was open, and the people were all dressed up. The people here were very hip, edgy, and had very creative style. Almost everyone had died hair and over-the-top outfits.

The arcades were ridiculous; they were like 5 floors, and we played a lot of the crane-grabbing-doll games. Look at the pictures: all the stuffed animals looked possible to win, but they WEREN'T! It was harder than we thought. After someone won a stuffed animal, we realized that the arcade staff members are very manipulative. They would purposely place the stuffed animals near the edge so you WOULD think they are easy to win. AHHHHH, so cunning! I'm going to be honest here, in retrospect, I was a sucker for these machines and spent a decent amount of money trying to win prizes. I did win a few stuffed animals so that was good.

Back to the arcade, they also had slot machines, pachinko, card arcade games, shooting games, Gundam games, etc. Later on, I realized that a part of Shinjuku was just the Red Light District. If we go farther out, actually, we can find nicer stores that are more representative of the consumer lifestyle of the Japanese.

Pictures: Day 1

My first view of Tokyo when I exited the JR station. My excitement = amount of watts the lights were using, in order words, I was very excited

Shinjuku!! I really like the place

Do you think you could win this? Look at it, how easy...

IT WAS HARD! The trick is not to grab with the two arms, but to push with one of the arms at a certain angle

Cool vending machine on our floor in the hotel

The pictures will be better, I promise...this is just DAY 1
