1. Random thought: I hate it when people complain about traffic in the morning and night. Solution for the morning: Wake up earlier. Solution for night: Leave later.
2. I hate middle school basketball rims. Either that I'm too strong or I'm really rusty. It's probably the latter.
3. Today, I got an email from my administration telling me that I am selected as one of the teachers to be observed by the Chief Technology Director of LAUSD tomorrow. I'm glad I finally set up my Mobi, this mobile smartboard that enables me to teach the class down the hall!
4. Speaking of technology, that got me thinking...I really want to put my passions to use at school. I want to start creating video clips about science for them. I want to capture and edit videos. Just a thought...If I ever be PD in the future, I would make video clips for my CMs for them to show to their students. Who would be more engaged in learning if they saw video clips featuring their very own teacher!
5. I've been looking at prices of DJ Turntables...getting closer to achieving my goal of being my school's dance DJ. DJ Trang in the house!
6. I watched "I Love You, Man" the other night. All I have to say is I'm glad to have my BFFs.
7. Yesterday, I held my knucklehead student after school for detention. We spoke for 20 minutes straight and I basically lectured him about life, his performance at school, etc. He never tries at school, but I highly encouraged him to make a change in his life so he could stop getting straight F's in school. I handed him the book, "Life in Prison" and told him to read it. Today, he was well behaved like an angel. No pun intended. That's his name.
8. One of my former students from last year came back to visit me several times this week. This student, let me tell you, was a difficult student to manage last year. He gave me a lot of problems in class, wouldn't do his homework, and was very apathetic about school. The only thing that we had in common was basketball. I had a difficult time dealing with him until I played in the student vs teacher flag football game. That game basically changed our dynamics in the class. He respected me and that was all I needed. Anyways, I ended up passing him in the class and he was able to cross-stage. Now that he's in high school, he comes back to visit my class. I see a changed individual. He told me that he has finally realized how stupid he looked in my class goofing around. He said the people that goof around in high school look stupid and apologized for messing around. From this interaction, what I realized was that everyone will come into their own terms when the time is right. It's all about patience and maturity.
9. I just took a 2 hour break...just finished watching Freedom Writers. I didn't cry for the movie UP but I teared up for Freedom Writers. That's why I teach.
10. I came home and found this in my garage...all I have to say is...This is going to be good times...
