The Trang Last Name

So yesterday was my g-pa's birthday. During the cutting of the cake, he urged me over to help him cut the cake. There's a huge language barrier between us so I didn't know what he wanted me to do so I gestured "No, thanks" to him. It didn't hit me until my sister said "You're like his heir." So as a sign of respect, I stood next to my g-pa and held his hand as we cut the cake together. I couldn't help but smile.

Then it hit me. I am the oldest Trang from his oldest son, my dad. That makes me the one to pass down the Trang last name. "I'm going to have babies until I get a boy" that exact thought went through my mind. I must pass the Trang last name...

Trang is what my students call me. Peace.

When we get older, I won't talk to you until you have a son.
