Today was back to school night from 4-6pm. Afterward, our softball game was at 8:30pm. Damn, I wish we didn't have to play tonight, but forfeiting would cost $$$. So I showed up 40 minuets before the game and instead of warming up; I played some bball with little kids. It was fun cause all we did was bet each other who would mess. Anyways, afterward, I warmed up for the game.
Reflecting on this game; it was pretty crazy and filled with adrenaline. Too much adrenaline can mess with your mind, which leads to utter confusion. Here's the recap of the game.
We batted first and for the first time, we scored in the first inning! 4 runs baby!! I knew the pitcher couldn't pitch well so I told the team not to swing so we ended up getting some walks and some good hits to score. After 3 outs, I was up on the mound.
Being a pitcher is tough. It's all about rhythm and confidence. If those elements are not there, you're screwed. It took me a while to get my rhythm. After 2 outs and 4 runs scored by the other team, I was ready for my final pitch. Pop fly...and my outfielder drops the ball when he took his eye off of it too early. Damn...next thing I knew, I gave up a grand slam...shoot me already. 4-8, we down. Finally, I get the 3rd out. TIme to bat.
After some good hits, I can't remember the in-between parts, but the score was 7-9 and I was up to pitch again. A miracle happened...I was able to hold the runners so we ended the inning 7-9. Last inning to bat for us.
2 instant outs. But somehow, we managed to get a run in and now two on and 2 outs with the score 8-9. I was up. Nervous as hell, heart pounding, and I think I farted a little before hitting. I looked in the outfield and the right field was playing shallow. Knowing that, I angled my body and the full-count pitch came zooming at me. Kaboom, it felt good and I hit an opposite field homerun!!! Holy crap!!!!!! It felt pretty good, but I knew it was not over. Score 11-9. THe next batter got out and my adrenaline was still pumping, and crap, I had to get on the mound.
As I ran to the mound, the ump told me 3 more outs in 4 minutes. I was really confused and my hormones were kicking my brain cells so I couldn't think clearly. I said "okay" without really knowing what he meant by that. So in my head, I interpreted, 4 minutes to get 3 outs so I need to hurry. So basically, I rushed my pitches, and in the end, I couldn't find my rhythm. The opposing scores 3 runs and game over.
Reflecting on this, what the ump said was if you can get 3 outs in 4 minutes, then we will start another inning. Damn, I didn't want to start another inning so instead, I should have took my time and got the 3 outs so we would have won since they were the home team. Dang, I messed up but it was a good, close game. It was fun. Lesson: competitive sports is fun but one needs composure and discipline. If not, adrenaline will get the best of you. Take your time and be like Kobe. Our record, 1-4. It's all goood in the hood, literally...
