I just spent the last hour and a half researching high schools. I'm trying to find a decent high school for some of my students. It's tough find a good one as most charter schools do a lottery system. To think one's live depends on a chance of a draw is unreal.
High school is one of the most crucial times in one's life. It really defines you and foreshadows your future. We were discussing this the other night, but schools track their students; those that will be success (put in the honors classes), those that will do okay (regular), and those that will fail (remedial/shelter). If I never fought to get into honors classes, I would have been screwed...
Dang, it's so hard to find a school! I feel like a parent...dang is that what I will be doing in 10 years? It's also crazy to think the zip code you live in defines your future.
Oh by the way, I had no idea that the high schools around where we grew up at are considered the best high school in CA: San Marino, Arcadia, Gab, Alhambra, San Gabriel, Keppel, etc. I guess we took that for granted...
